Sasha Chvany
I started fencing epee at Salle Auriol when I was seven years old, a little over eleven years ago. At that time, the club was in another location, and when it moved to its current spot, I moved with it. After my coach Monica stopped teaching at the Salle, I tried another fencing club nearer to where we live…but that didn’t last long. It lacked the culture of acceptance and the sense of community that makes SAS a special place to me. The majority of time that I have fenced here, I have been lucky to have Jay as my coach, and feel that I have learned a lot over the years. I love fencing for various reasons, many hard to explain; the simplest is that I’m a nerd who likes quirky activities that exist on the fringe of society. And I like poking people with swords without hurting them. I treat fencing more as a hobby, something to just have fun with, rather than a competitive sport. Unfortunately, Whitman College, where I will be studying astrophysics for the next four years, does not have a fencing program, and the small town of Walla Walla lacks a club. I guess that means that whenever I am in Seattle, I will just have to grace Salle Auriol with my presence!
Ryan Fecarotta
Ryan has been participating in Running Start at Highline College for the last two years and will be graduating with a homeschool diploma. He will be attending Seattle Pacific University in the fall, studying computer science.
He has been fencing at Salle Auriol since 2018 and is excited that SPU is only five minutes away so he can continue fencing at SAS.
Rocco Pampena
Rocco is graduating from Garfield High School. He will be attending the University of Washington in the fall and plans to get involed in UW's fencing club while there. Rocco began fencing when he was around 11 years old. He attended one summer camp and came home asking if he could take lessons - he loved it so much! Our family had the honor of traveling with him to watch him compete in the Junior Olympics and Summer Nationals. We have so many fond memories from SAS! Thank you for all of the support over the years.
Mehek Sathe
Mehek is graduating from Tesla STEM High School in Redmond and will be attending Mount Holyoke College in MA, to study Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Science. She began fencing Sabre at Washington Fencing Academy when she was 9 years. She switched to Epee for a year and then came back to Sabre. She has been fencing at Salle Auriol Seattle since January 2016. She hopes to continue fencing in college.
Bobby Watt
Bobby Watt is graduating from the Seattle Academy of Arts & Sciences and will be attending Loyola Marymount University in the fall to study Computer Science. Bobby started fencing foil at SAS in 2017 and hopes to continue fencing in LA.
